‘Tinsel-tastic treats and snappy surprises' are in store as Surrey Community Music Society proudly presents its ‘Christmas Crackers' concert at 7pm on Saturday 1st December at the HG Wells Centre in Woking. Following their award-winning success last year at the Krakow Advent and Christmas Choir Festival, the 200 members of Elmbridge Choir and Elmbridge Ladies Choir are very much looking forward to performing to their audience at home this Christmas.
‘Simply Divine', a concert featuring the 200 voices of Elmbridge Choir and Elmbridge Ladies Choir delighted the 250-strong audience at Christ the Prince of Peace Church in Weybridge on Saturday 6th October, while at the same time raising funds for the charity's music grants scheme, ‘Get Music Going!' The concert got off to a superb start with the 100+ members of Elmbridge Choir entering the church and surrounding the audience while singing an a-cappella African song. Directed by Cliff van Tonder, the choir then went on to perform a wide variety of styles with their usual enthusiasm, from ‘New York, New York' to Handel's ‘Hallelujah Chorus', to a medley from ‘Les Miserables', earning themselves a standing ovation. After the interval it was the turn of the fabulous Elmbridge Ladies Choir, replete with pink feather boas. Ably led by Dale Thomas, the choir's Musical Director, the ladies sang pop hits and soul classics in their heartfelt and energetic way, their performance being described by more than one member of the audience as soul-stirring and uplifting. It was the first time Byfleet resident Tanya Isaiah had seen the choirs perform. ‘Elmbridge Choir rocked and moved me to tears' remarked Tanya afterwards, ‘then more musical stirring and lifting from the Elmbridge Ladies Choir - brill! 'Simply Divine'? The show really was just that!' Both choirs will be performing their ‘Christmas Crackers' concert at the HG Wells Conference Suite in Woking on Saturday 1st December, together with Elmbridge Big Band and Elmbridge Young Musicians.
